House Name

I learnt this morning that, while this term may relate to a residence or dwelling or a group of people in a school, college or university, it has another meaning.

While perusing a post from Daniel Loftus I saw the term House Name used in another context. Daniel who was writing about Mother and Baby homes in Ireland said “A house name is a name given to a mother upon entering an institution to obscure her identity to others in the institution with them.”

A quick Google search found a few references to the use of the term House Name in Ireland
