Genies: a term used commonly in Australia to describe genealogists or family historians.
It seems that the term is used internationally as Dorene from Ohio said in 2011…
“Genies – individuals who pursue genealogy”

Update 5/8/2019 I was just reading a 2005 article in which Heather Garnsey, Executive Officer of The Society of Australian Genealogists, is quoted in The Sydney Morning Herald as saying”genealogists – or “genies” as they call themselves.
